BG Music for iPhone game Ninja Dino Showdown!?

We need background music for our iPhone game, Ninja Dino Showdown!? It's an action game where you play as ninjas fighting dinosaurs.

1. I will be giving feedback at the bottom of the page. Feel free to post as well!
2. Here is a gameplay video, please try out your submissions in the background of the gameplay to get a feel for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIPNVJFdyjs

KEYWORDS:
ambient/slower/calmer/ponderous/ (because it is background music it should be biased to not overtake the game action)
percussion / war
non-electronic/instrumental
asian
adventurous
ethnic
non-serious
(it will continually loop in the game so the music will need some variety) We should be able to kick back and listen to it loop alot.

SIZE
For the filesize, the smaller the better, < 5mb (perhaps mono?), but each level is about 5+ minutes, so it's up to you if that affects the music.

INSPIRATION
However if you do need some inspiration, a good place to start off would be the Battlestar OST and the Shogun 2 OST, though I would recommend slowing the pace down.
Examples of background music (consider not the content, but how it fits well in the background):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLUA9XKyHz0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2evIg-aYw8

NOTE:
It's a given that the winning entry will also get music credits in the game.
I figure creating the music is an iterative process, so please submit a lot of samples.
If you submit a composition and it doesn't show up, wait a bit and try again.

This is my 3rd submission. Same piece as #14 except that I changed the entire last third for a better "war" feel. Hope that works.

More tension as discussed but still mindful of leaving space for sound design. The end is made to work as lead for seamless looping

My second submission for this particular project. Slower, not quirky at all, percussive, and minimalist.

Only thing I could relate to with "asian" was a slow paced song with oriental sounds, this is my submission.

This is a short piece I wrote for this project. It is a quirky piece featuring shamisen that provides the main melody with background taiko.

Same here. Uploaded a track. Maybe there's an approval system or something now before it displays.

Oh that would suck if it didn't work. Lets give a day and if not, I'm sure we can work something out.

Hi Guys i've checked the project and unfortunately i can't find any trace of you files. Could you please try to upload your files again. If the flash uploader does not work for you. Please try the alternative uploader. The alternative uploader does not have a progress bar so please be patient. I've tested upload in Chrome, IE 9 and Firefox and i can't find any bugs. So if you have any more information on why your uploads went wrong please contact me.

Hey all, I've updated the description with two updates.
I'll be posting a video of the game so that you can play your future samples to it-- it'll help you guys get a feel for the tone and speed.

@Mihai I like where #2 is going, can we keep with the drums or another instrument around 0:13?

@Koto That one's a little too silly, lol.

@Kromatic It's very aural and mellow, but it doesn't really have any asian themes going for it.

@marcofrydshou Could the epic battle part be slowed down a bit? I like the 2 calm tracks.

The submissions so far have been pretty good!

I've uploaded a gameplay video so try your music with the video running (at an appropriate volume). This will help you get a feel for the pacing and direction.

Also, I have updated the description about the music. One key thing I think we should note is that the music should not overtake the action on the screen (which you can see from the video link)

Hey guys, so far the submissions have been great!

Dingle definitely hit on the right direction with "game audio space" concept-- you guys need to account for the fact that it is *background music* and so there will be sound effects playing over it. I strongly suggest checking out the video and playing any future submissions with it.

With this in mind, I think there's a lot of space you can play with in the percussion department, where the sounds are lower.

#6 I like the beginning, but it needs an asian instrument in there
#7 I think you're definitely heading in the right direction, look forward to another submission with it leading into more tension/conflict, maybe slide into war drums
#8 I'd love to use yours somewhere but it doesn't fit episode 0
#9 Same comments as #7, like where it's going.

@binaryRebellion - New submission. Same composition, battle piece slowed down minus heavy brass n Strings.

@Mihai Sorohan - Thanks my friend, yours are very good too.

@BinaryRebellion - New Submission from me as well - I wrote it to be easily extendable yet still stay interesting.

I feel we are definitely getting there. If the file sizes aren't too bad (< 5mb max), make longer 2-3 min versions, to add more variety / building up tension.

#11 I love the variety of it, works well with during the game. I don't know music language but in the beginning the leading sound/beat could be drums/ have more variety since currently the beat it's very strong and its repetition sticks out more.
#12 That's not really where we're headed, I recommend looking at the other tracks
#13 Same comments as #11, liking it a lot
#14 It's great! Maybe add a little more "war" somewhere but it sounds pretty good.
JonathanGjertsen: It doesn't really fit in with the game, it's kinda flat. I would like to say that if we were working on an espionage game, #6 fit up there with the Metal Gear series.

Hey guys, great submissions so far.
I feel we have a great group of compositions, but since the deadline is two weeks away I am giving others the chance to submit as well.

#16 is a definite improvement on the previous-- I feel it builds tension for too long and it doesn't build up to a clear break into something else.
#17 I like it but perhaps swap the two halves of the music? Like start slow, calm, and build into it
#19 I think the war feel might have been overdone, I was hoping something more subtle, like maybe a prelude to war.
#20 It's pretty good.
#21 Around 0:41 it may get too up beat for the game
#22 Maybe riffing off of chinatown too much lol
#23 Sounds great, doesn't need any changing
#24 I like its minimalism, but couldn't hurt to add variety by leading into a different sound

Thank you everyone for your great submissions!

Although we chose only one submission, we still may get in contact with you; if things go well with the game, we'll have the budget to cycle through different sound tracks on a regular basis. There were a number of artists that were only slightly edged out.

Thank you again for your help!

Congratulations SatsumAudio. I thought your track was very fitting to the game. Well done.
