BACKGROUND:
Crowded is a radio show made entirely from audio solicited from workers on the crowdsourcing website, Mechanical Turk. It was commissioned by Rhizome.org in 2009. Each episode will have a theme or a mechanism around which the crowdsourced samples are gathered. This episode is about how different generations of families define work. (more info here: http://www.crowded.fm/themes/episode-4-hits/)
ASSIGNMENT:
I need someone to take the collected files (link below) and edit it together into a 25-35 minute show. I would like to use some percentage of all of these intros. The rest of the clips can be edited and mixed together however you see fit. PLEASE LISTEN TO AT LEAST ONE OF THE PREVIOUS EPISODES TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE LIKE.
Also, please note that, just because I have included a clip in the ZIP file doesn't mean it is completely usable. If a clip is unintelligible, please try to clean it up. If you still can't understand what is being said, please don't use it.
Please submit a 5-8 minute sample of how you would handle the editing of the show. A winner will be chosen from this sample and asked to complete the project. The deadline for submissions is April 14. If you have any questions or need more material, please contact me.
All submitters will get a link to their site on the Crowded.fm website. The winner will be featured on the site.
NOTE
I hope to get a variety of editors for this show, so if you have won within the last 2 episodes, please do not submit.
I will pre-pay as soon as I get the first submission.
ATTACHMENTS
crowded_jingle.zip
I have attached the intro as a reference, but please do not include it in your submission.
Episode 4a.zip
This is only about half of the total recordings. I will be posting more in the next few days.
intros.zip
NOTE: These are a few intros from Episode 2. I haven't gathered the ones for Episode 4 yet, so you can use these as placeholders.
INSPIRATION
I am looking for a cross between This American Life and Joe Frank. There should be soft instrumental background music through much of it, but not necessarily all of it. I also like the slightly experimental quality of Radiolab. But this should be subtle - keep the focus on the content, not the effects. (links below)
